What I've Done, What I'm Doing & Where I'm Going

Medtronic, Inc.

August 2011 - Open Ended

I recently received a job offer from Medtronic for the Biomedical Engineering Summer Associate Position. I will be putting my engineering knowledge and people skills to use within the Structural Heart division. I will be starting 1 week after I return from Central America and will continue to work part-time throughout the semester. Medtronic has acknowledged that EWH will provide me with an experience that will better prepare me for my future position. I am so grateful that Medtronic supports my decision to participate in the EWH-Duke Summer Institute!

Running

Every Day!

I love running and can't get enough of it. I have completed 3 half marathons this semester and recently registered for the 2011 Twin Cities Marathon in October. I am continuing my training and am in love with the mental and physical challenges that running long distances brings. During my last 13.1 miles race, I placed 2nd in age group for women. My most recent race was 25 km (about 15.5 miles), uphill in the mud and snow. This was the most challenging race thus far!

Fox Glacier Guiding, Fox Glacier, New Zealand

May 2010 - September 2010

In Fox Glacier I worked as a Front Line Sales Assistant where I sold merchandise, glacier climbs and tours, international post, and bus bookings. I also advised tourists on guiding, traveling, and accommodation inquires on a daily basis. I was in New Zealand during their winter. Therefore, I was able to snowboard some of the most wicked slopes in the world!

Griffith University, Brisbane Australia

July 2009 - December 2009

I completed electives in programming, complex analysis, electromagnetic fields, and employment relations in an exchange student and male dominated environment. I also worked with Conservation Volunteers of Australia to take preventative action against mountain forest fires and participated in a student group called Student Life (Campus Crusades for Christ). Student Life aims to spread the word of God and encourage Christian beliefs. On my way home from Australia, I stopped in New Zealand where I backpacked for 1 month. During my backpacking adventure rented a car, camped almost daily, bungy jumped, ice climbed, and had the time of my life!
